Third World Attitude

For years now, we have been suffering with tribulations. Some external and most of them internal, somewhere in the depth of our mind.  Some intense enough to survive a decade, some a century and some others seem to be perennial.  We get up every morning have our leisurely shower not thinking of the millions of people who have to manage with the same amount of water for a year.  We would hardly believe that the food we waste each meal is more often than not the only bit that a scavenger gets in a day and that too if s/he is lucky.  When we tackle the problem of deciding the best schools for our children we don’t think who will tackle the problem of the children who have been robbed off their childhood working somewhere in a squalid construction site or begging to fill not theirs but their parents’ appetite.  And when we say “ये देश रहने लायक नहीं रहा” and fly to some beautiful country with hefty pay packages we better skip answering the question “ये देश रहने लायक बनाएगा कौन?”

These and many others have crippled our country.  But all that we have done is blamed.  It is said that success is always ours whereas the failures are someone else’s.  We tend to hoard all the credit for an accomplishment to ourselves but would always shrug off the responsibility of a letdown.  But here we are- all set to set the records straight.  We look at every trouble right in the face.  And the greatest world is where we have set our gaze.  We are not here to attract or to astonish.  We are here to shake all problems right at their base.
